Beyond repair?
Very first of all, wow! Where has summer long gone? How can it possibly be September by now???
This is only heading to be a brief site, but I just required to share a minimal repair job that I’ve been doing the job on today. The consumer at first sent me an email a couple months in the past, as she’d been instructed by a substantial road jeweller that her sentimental gold gown ring, was not able to be resized. Que that very little evil bit in my brain that just wants to show them wrong and show that it IS achievable, and voila! 1 resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Yes, it IS a fragile ring, so she’s not likely to be capable to have on it every single working day, but at minimum it now CAN be worn, relatively than staying destined to sit in a box without end!
The ring in issue – so lovely!
It is 9ct gold, set with garnets and pearls and is quite fragile, but surely not past mend. It is a “dress ring” and will by no means have been meant to be worn all of the time.
Size L1/2 and wants to be a dimensions N
The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all all around it, and due to the fact it is a pretty tiny ring, the hallmark took up most of the readily available room, so I had to decide on where by to make the slice extremely carefully.
Adding the new gold
It is all thanks to my Dado laser welder here. It intended that I could include in a new segment of gold and “weld” it in position with no jeopardizing heating (and ruining!) the pearls.
Cleaning up
The moment the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a circumstance of quite meticulously cleansing up the joins.
Not forgetting the within.
The newer gold alloy was a a little bit various colour, but it’ll all mix in with a polish.
Prepared to wear!
Indeed, you can see the sign up for if you glance closely, but in some cases it’s not all about completely hiding the new component. This ring was about preservation and building it wearable once again.
Polished and all set for many far more yrs!
A “very” mindful polish so as not to hurt all those delicate pearls, or to clear away to a lot of the character. In my feeling, it’s correct for an antique to glimpse as these!
